August challenges at Home and Scrapped.......

Into August already...... where is the year going to?
 
The Home and Scrapped DT have provided us with another great range of challenges for the month and yee ha.... I have finished them all and it's not even the end of the month yet.

Bec gave us a messy challenge to start with, this challenge is a texture and mixed media challenge. I would like to see your layouts with lots of texture whether it be
- texture paste,
- gesso
- crackle medium, or
- lace
- muslin
- feathers
-stitching
- beads
-sequins
I am sure you all have some of the above and if not get creative with your STASH. Paper can be crumpled, embossed and crimped.
This is what I ended up with, a background created with texture paste and gesso then worked over with Faber Castell Gelatos, direct to page and mixed with my fingers. I wanted the effect to mimic the texture of the rocks in the cave. Some crumpld tissue paper, washi tape, corrugted cardboard, mesh, muslin and string all add to the texture. Really loved playing with this.


Amy B decided to have a go at making her own sketch  just doing it using Word. There is room to use scraps of PP you have lying around in your stash. Here it is,
And, here is my take on  it using free papers from a magazine a little while ago.

This month is STASH BUSTER month at Home. So Joy wanted us to dig out some of the gear we have been keeping for that special layout, or just because it was nice or we could use it - so - we had to use it for this month of challenges.
 
Joy's challenge to us for this month is a 'Scraplift'. A scraplift is taking another person's design and copying the layout and position of all the accents, but using your own photos and stash.
She wanted us to 'lift' her creation and make a page for our own album.
 
I chose to stick close to the design of the layout and kept it clean and focussed on the one photo. Even though the paper is busy I found that it actually worked as the white Gi stood out from the photo an brought your attention to it.

So glad to finally use with paper range from Kaiser that has been in my stash for a few years now.

Gosh Christmas is creeping up fast

I'm not real good at this blogging stuff, am I? I have really neglected it lately. We spent a lovely ten days in Cairns in the beginning of November which I am sure you will see in the layouts that I will be creating over the coming months and indeed in the last couple of Cybercrops. We stayed at Holloways Beach which is approx 10kms north of Cairns city and the beach is not like our South Aussie beaches where we have the soft hard packed sand, it was grainy and moved a lot under foot. In Cairns itself you cannot swim at the beach as the city has a more swampy beachfront which is muddy and tacky with lots of crabs. At this time of the year also, the waters are full of stingers so it is dangerous to swim in the sea unless in an enclosed netted off area for protection. Holloways beach had a small area to do this and the boys liked it but the current was strong and wavy and no sooner would they stand up than wave would come and dump them under again. My Christmas cards with North Pole papers.....

Last Christmas season I bought the Kaisercraft North Pole 6.5" x 6.5" paper pad as I really loved the colours of the papers. Of course I really didn't get a chance to use them much  because I had already made my cards earlier in the year so have been putting them to use in recent weeks for my cards for this Christmas Season. Inspired by Pinterest above.    A sketch from Paper Wishes for World Card Making Day was used for above and below.  Above is another Paper Wishes sketch for World Card Making Day and below is OWH sketch #236. The last of the scraps.....

The last of the glossy magazine scraps with toppers and extra bits. These went to Combat Cards SA just before the close off of Christmas cards.   Stamps are from a Clear Impressions set with Creative Stamping magazine. Die-cut is from Stampin' Up.     These are based on some sketches but it has been a while and I can't remember which ones they were so I  won't be able to share that this time around.
